Solidification of undercooled melts

You may first want to read an introduction on solidification and the role of undercooling, what kind of studies and insights are possible etc.,

I started to work on this topic during my post-doc. Using the electromagnetic levitation technique, several systems have been studied to investigate microstructural evolution and growth rate behaviour at Institute of Space Simulation, German Aerospace Center(DLR), Cologne, Germany in the group of Prof. Dieter M. Herlach.

My work was in growth rate measurements of Ni, Ni-Zr, Fe-Ge alloys. The order-disorder transformation and microstructure evolution in the peritectic alloy Fe-Ge were studied.
